 Not Just For TS Folk!
A powerful text on a much-overlooked topic in mythology: the bi-gendered gods and heroes throughout time. Although this book's subtitle is "The Transgendered Spirituality Workbook", it would definately appeal to anyone interested in world mythology, theology, history, or psychology. It is both informative and personal in writing style, and a very engaging read... a welcome addition to my world history library.
Archetypes revealed!
Mythology is regularly rewritten to render it politically correct. In the recent past we have seen several books that have revealed the feminine truth concealed in masculine mythology.Raven's book uncovers and reveals a deeper and often darker truth of a time and place where transgenderedness was a blessing and an indication of a spiritual vocation. His proposals for ritual are both powerful and effective. His questions and suggestions for further work, personal and public are challenging. We need more books like this.

Since reading Hermaphrodeities, and working the questions some amazing things have happened for me. One, that I am speaking with feminists on reproductive rights causes and abortion access issues on my campus. Two, young GLBT teens have opened up to me stories about their spiritual selves that they have never admitted to anyone else before. They have been in tears just because I was willing to listen and not judge their feelings, their awakenings. Three, I am hosting a party with tg men and nontg gay/bi men to discuss sexual health issues and community. As one friend said, 'it's about time us boys got our selves together to talk about what we are already doing with each other. The girls got their [act] together ...now it's time for us to talk about gay/bi male friendship, sexuality and intamicy.'Hermaphrodeities is defintely an empowering, important step for bridge builders to read, if ever there was a manual for how to transition without becoming a ... mysogynist, this is the book to dipsell those myths.
