bacilli

Rod-shaped bacteria.

bacteria

Widely distributed unicellular microorganisms with both plant and animal characteristics; the three varieties are bacillus, coccus, and spirillum; some harmful; some are harmless; commonly known as microbes or germs. 

bactericide

An agent that destroys bacteria.

barba

The growth of beard hair of either men or women.

basal

Located at the base which is the lowest or supporting part of anything; lowest or least.

basal cell carcinoma

Characterized by light or pearly nodules and visible blood vessels.

basal layer

The deepest layer of the epidermis. Also known the germinative layer or stratum basale. Active growth occurs in this layer.

benzoyl peroxide

The active ingredient of many over-the-counter (OTC) acne products.

blackhead

Also known as a comedone, caused by the hardening of the sebum in the sebaceous gland duct leading to the surface of the skin. 

blanching

Whitening of the epidermis, resulting from over-treatment with high frequency energy. 

blend method

A method of electrolysis combining galvanic electrolysis and thermolysis at the same time.

bulbous

Pertaining to, or like, a bulb in shape and structure.

bulla

A blister containing watery fluid, similar to a vesicle, but larger.
