Erythromycin and Sulfisoxazole, Oral
This medicine is a combination product used to treat ear infections
and other conditions.
Proper Use
You can take this medicine with or without meals. Take it with a
full glass of water.
Take this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes, in regularly
spaced doses day and night. Do not miss doses, and do not take
double doses. If you do miss a dose, take the medicine at the next
scheduled time.
Take this medicine for as long as your doctor tells you, even if
you feel better.
Please Note
Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve in a few
days or if it gets worse.
This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to the sun and may
cause you to sunburn more easily. While you are taking this
medicine, avoid long exposure to the sun and sunlamps. While you
are in the sun, wear protective clothing and sunscreen lotion until
you know how you will react to the sun. Do not use a sunlamp. If
you get a severe sunburn, contact your doctor right away.
This medicine may make you dizzy. Do not drive or operate
machinery unless you are fully alert.
Females of childbearing age: Tell your doctor if you are pregnant
or breast-feeding an infant. Breast-feeding is not recommended
while you are taking this medicine.
Possible Side Effects
Serious (report these to your doctor right away): Rash, itching,
muscle pain, sore throat, fever, bleeding, abdominal cramps.
Other: Sensitivity to sun, diarrhea, dizziness, nausea, vomiting.
Tell your doctor if you have any side effects that continue or get
worse.
Possible Drug Interactions
When you take this medicine with other medicines, it may increase
or decrease the effects of the medicines. Or the combination may
cause harmful side effects. Some medicines that may interact with
this medicine are:
- blood thinners such as warfarin (Coumadin)
- bromocriptine (Parlodel)
- cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral)
- digoxin (Lanoxin)
- disopyramide (Norpace)
- ergot medicines (Ergomar, Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine)
- lovastatin (Mevacor)
- medicines used to treat diabetes such as acetohexamide
(Dymelor), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glimepiride (Amaryl),
glipizide (Glucotrol), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase, Micronase),
tolbutamide (Orinase), and tolazamide (Tolinase)
- phenytoin (Dilantin)
- theophylline
- triazolam (Halcion).
Be sure that you tell all doctors who treat you about all medicines
you are taking, including nonprescription products.
