Accuracy & Ethics Policy

TransGenderCare.com follows a specific code of ethics in order to provide accurate and credible transgender information on the Internet.

This policy for content presentation at TransGenderCare.com addresses one of Internet's main health care issues: maintaining the reliability and credibility of information through following standardized guidelines in making health information available on the World Wide Web.

In a remarkably short period, the popularity of the Internet has made it one of the most widely used communication media.  This universal appeal is especially felt amongst those seeking transgender-based information, guidance, and services alike.  The Internet provides a gateway to an immense amount of data to those who might otherwise hesitate to explore and resolve these very personal issues.  But with the growing ease of web site publishing, anyone can create a web site and publish any kind of data, regardless of quality or accuracy, which is then accessible to all.

As a result, transgender health information available on the Internet is a mix of sound, valid information along with misleading information that includes anonymous and hearsay reporting, spurious email ratings or reports, and instances of unlicensed individuals being contained within health provider lists.  Some health-based sites are pseudonymously hosted, tout questionable claims and use testimonials as the basis for treatment decisions.  Under such conditions, the accuracy, validity or source of transgender health information is highly questionable.

Additionally, web sites may display user submitted feedback in the form of statistics, such as Internet polls.  While dynamically driven web sites, including TransGenderCare, may provide a forum for compiling and relaying users' feedback,  visitors to health care web sites should be reminded not to rely on poll data for specific health care decision-making.  TransGenderCare polls are conducted with general interest topics only.

The Internet has the potential in providing a wonderful freedom of information.  And anonymity, questionable information, and even that which may be considered obscene or vulgar all have a place on the Internet.  But consumers of health care services deserve accuracy and reliability in the information they receive.

While sources of transgender health information are scant, a greater reliance on anecdotal information is often necessary. But providing that information requires a conscientious approach in developing Internet content. For details concerning our methods for developing this Site’s content, please review Our Web Site: TransGenderCare.com.

Information provided and accessed through TransGenderCare.com is presented in a summary form and should not be used as a substitute for a consultation or visit with a physician, psychologist, electrologist or other health care provider. (See Terms & Conditions.)
